McDaniel to battle for CC title

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host Muhlenberg in the first-round game of the 2013 Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer championship on Tuesday. Game time is 2 p.m.

The fourth-seeded Green Terror (13-5, 6-4 CC) faces the fifth-seeded Mules (7-10-1, 5-5 CC) with the winner advancing to Friday's semifinals at Johns Hopkins.

Top-seeded Johns Hopkins (16-1-1, 9-0-1 CC), ranked No. 6 in the latest NSCAA Division III coaches poll, will host Tuesday's winner in the night's first semifinal to begin at 5 p.m. Second-seeded Haverford (10-2-5, 7-0-3 CC) will face third-seeded Gettysburg (12-2-3, 7-2-1 CC) in the night's other semifinal not before 7:30 p.m. or 60 minutes following the conclusion of the first semifinal.

The semifinal winners will advance to Saturday's championship game, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Nov. 15. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. It is the first tournament appearance for McDaniel.

In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and Mules, Muhlenberg prevailed 1-0 in Westminster on Sept. 14.

Freshman Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) led McDaniel during the regular season with nine goals, six assists and 24 points.

Senior Julia Pope (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) added seven goals, five assists and 21 points during the regular season while sophomore Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) chipped in seven goals, five assists and 19 points. McDaniel ranks second in the conference in scoring with 45 goals.

Freshman Haley Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) posted a 1.22 goals-against average during the regular season and a save percentage of .811. Her save percentage ranks fourth in the CC.
