Gibson tallies one and one to key victory

FROSTBURG, Md. – McDaniel posted its fifth straight shutout in a 3-0 win over Frostburg in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.

Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) was one of three different goal scorers while also adding an assist for the Green Terror (6-0), who extended its current shutout streak to more than 478 minutes.

Karen Belteton led the Bobcats (3-5) with three first-half saves in goal.

Gibson beat a pair of defenders then took on the keeper one-on-one, winning the battle in the 13th minute to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead.

Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) netted her team-leading fifth goal off a left-to-right cross from Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) in the 36th minute.

Wroblewski tacked on her second goal in as many games, knocking a Gibson pass into the lower-left corner of the net in the 69th minute.

Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Haley Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) combined for the shutout without either needing to make a save.

The McDaniel defense limited Frostburg to just two shots while the offense cranked out 18 at the other end.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
