SALISBURY, Md. – William Smith, ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches' Division III preseason poll, scored four first-half goals en route to a 5-0 win over McDaniel in season-opening women's soccer action at the Salisbury University Classic on Friday.

Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Green Terror (0-1), who were ranked 16th in the same preseason poll, with nine saves in goal.

Five different players scored for the Herons (1-0), who finished with a 27-4 advantage in shots. Shelia McQuillen added two assists to her goal.

Evie Manning redirected a Julia Keough pass to stake William Smith to a 1-0 lead just 8:42 into the game.

Megan Barwick fought through traffic in the box to make it a 2-0 game seven minutes later.

Goals by Mariah Deschino and McQuillen 8 minutes, 4 seconds apart pushed the lead to 4-0 with 4:04 to play in the opening half.

McQuillen's second helper came on a centering pass to Phoebe Wade in the 50th minute for the lone goal of the second half.

McDaniel returns to action against Shenandoah in the second day of the Classic on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
