Gibson records goal, assist in conference-opening win

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – McDaniel scored twice in the first half for a 2-1 victory over Ursinus in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer opener for both teams on Saturday.

Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) led the Green Terror (5-1, 1-0 CC) with a goal and an assist.

Katie Bell scored for the Bears (0-5-1, 0-1 CC), breaking up the shutout in the 44th minute.

Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) volleyed home a Gibson cross from the right side to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the game.

Gibson then doubled the lead just over 15 minutes later, finishing a Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) cross into the left corner.

Bell finished off a deflection in the box to make it a 2-1 game at the break and neither team was able to score in the second half.

McDaniel finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 edge in the decisive first half.

Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) finished with three saves for the Green Terror while Sabrina Doherty had four stops for the Bears.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
