Funke tallies goal, assist in victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored twice in each half to defeat Gettysburg 4-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.

Marissa Funke (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown West) led the Green Terror (6-1, 2-0 CC) with a goal and assist while also keying a backline that allowed just one shot.

Kerry Sammon had one save for the Bullets (3-2-1, 1-1 CC), who were outshot 15-1 on the day.

On a backpost run in the ninth minute, Funke knocked in an Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) corner kick for a 1-0 lead.

On another corner in the 35th minute, Funke got a shot off that rebounded to Kristen Worry (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), who finished for her first collegiate goal.

Maddie Schwartz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Paola Rosa (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) each finished solo runs nine minutes apart from the top of the box to set the final score at the 58:35 mark.

McDaniel returns to action at home against No. 9 Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
