McDaniel to battle for CC title

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host Gettysburg in the first-round game of the 2017 Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer championship on Wednesday. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

The fourth-seeded Green Terror (11-5-1, 6-3-1 CC) faces the fifth-seeded Bullets (9-6-2, 6-4 CC) with the winner advancing to Saturday's semifinals at Johns Hopkins.

Top-seeded Johns Hopkins (15-2-1, 10-0 CC), ranked No. 10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III coaches poll, will host Wednesday's winner in the night's first semifinal to begin at 4 p.m. Second-seeded Swarthmore (13-3-1, 7-2-1 CC) will face third-seeded Haverford (9-5-3, 6-2-2 CC) in the night's other semifinal, slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. or 60 minutes following the conclusion of the first semifinal.

The semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship game, which will begin at 4 p.m.

The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Nov. 11. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday at 1 p.m.

The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. It is the fourth tournament appearance for McDaniel. The Green Terror is also in search of its third straight NCAA tournament bid.

In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and Bullets, McDaniel prevailed 4-0 in Westminster on Sept. 20.

Senior Katie Kirschennman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) leads the team with seven goals and 16 points while freshman Maddie Schwartz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) has four goals. Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) has a team-best eight assists and is second on the team with 12 points.

Senior Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) has a 1.01 goals-against average and .765 save percentage. Freshman Sydney Kelly (Windsor, Pa./Eastern York) has a 1.34 goals-against average and .692 save percentage.
