KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three members of the McDaniel women's soccer team have been named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III Scholar All-South Region team while one was named a Scholar All-American, announced on Friday.
Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), a goalkeeper, Kristen Upton (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South), a defender, and Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside), a midfielder, were all Scholar All-South first-team selections. It is the second straight year that both McDonald and Upton earned the honor.
Upton also earned third-team Scholar All-America honors. It was the second time she received the honor.
McDonald, a senior, entered the semester with a 3.72 grade-point average in accounting/economics. Starting all 10 games in which she played, she posted a 0.98 goals-against average and .815 save percentage. Individually, she posted four shutouts, missing half of the season with injury.
Upton, a senior, entered the semester with a 3.92 grade-point average in biochemistry and exercise chemistry. Starting all 20 games, she keyed a backline that posted a 1.06 goals-against average and eight shutouts. She also contributed two goals and an assist.
Keen, a senior, entered the semester with a 3.80 grade-point average in exercise chemistry. Starting all 20 games, she led the team with eight assists. She also added two goals and was second on the team with 12 points.
To be named to the Scholar Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 throughout her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team and be nominated by an institution that is a current United Soccer Coaches College Services member.
The Green Terror concluded the season with a record of 12-6-2 (6-3-1 CC) and advanced to the CC semifinals game and NCAA tournament.
