Bears win final relay to secure 112-93 victory

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Malena Lair Ferrari won three times, including as the leadoff on the meet-clinching 400 freestyle relay, to lead Ursinus to a 112-93 Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Lianna Foster-Bey and Bryn O'Neill were double winners for the Bears (3-0, 1-0 CC), who recorded seven victories overall.

Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Rachel Walega (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) paced the Green Terror (0-3, 0-3 CC) with two wins each.

Clinging to a 99-89 advantage entering the final event, Lair Ferrari and Foster-Bey were on each end of the 400 freestyle relay, partnering with Regina Shetler and Sarah Kolosky to finish in a time of 3:49.91 and ensure Ursinus the victory.

Lair Ferrari also touched first in the 200 free (1:59.84) and 200 back (2:13.79). Foster-By added an win in the 50 free with a time of 25.94.

O'Neill won the distance events, touching first in the 1000 (11:25.29) and 500 (5:42.21) freestyle events.

Lenz and Walega teamed with Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) for a victory in the meet opening 400 medley relay, combining for a time of 4:11.07.

Lenz was also a winner in the 200 butterfly (2:26.99) while Walega took the 200 breaststroke (2:33.21).

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) added McDaniel's other win, taking the 100 free with a time of 56.08 seconds.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Dec. 4-5.
