Duesterhaus records three wins

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg won seven events en route to a 61-33 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Wednesday.

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) led the Green Terror (1-3, 0-2 CC) with a three-win outing.

Cooper Kearns paced the Bullets (3-0, 2-0 CC) with three wins of her own.

The Gettysburg foursome of Kayte Demont, Brooke Lacey and Mariesa Slaughter opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, touching first in a time of 1:56.60 before Kearns helped push the lead to 21-4 with back-to-back wins. Kearns was victorious in the 1000 free (11:00.97) and 200 free (2:02.29).

Duesterhaus broke up the run with her first win of the day, touching first in the 50 free (25.35) before later winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.44. She rounded out her triple-win day as the anchor on the 200 free relay, joining Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) and Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) for a time of 1:46.31.

Kearns rounded out her three-win evening with a victory in the 500 free (5:32.22).

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) added an individual win for the Green Terror with a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.35). Her time ranks 10th on the all-time list. Jacobs was also third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:58.29, which is sixth all-time.

Caroline Coolidge won twice for the Bullets, touching first in the 400 IM (4:57.90) and 100 free (56.05). Slaughter added an individual win in the 100 butterfly (1:02.08).

Jessica Fry (St. Mary's, Ga./Camden County) finished second in the 200 free with a time of 2:04.17.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Urinus on Saturday. Meet time is 1 p.m.
