Vanscoy notches three wins

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – McDaniel won nine of the day's first 12 events to secure a 132-118 Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming victory over Bryn Mawr on Saturday.

Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) led the Green Terror (3-7, 1-5 CC) to its second straight victory with a three-win outing. Three other swimming won twice over the first 12 events before the squad swam all of its competitors as exhibition in the final two events. McDaniel had the best time in both events.

Meredith Davis paced the Owls (3-7, 0-6 CC) with three wins of her own. She touched first in the 100 freestyle (58.14) and 100 butterfly (1:03.38). She was also part of the 200 free relay, joining with Jessica Aron, Kristina Xiang and Kelsey Power to swim a time of 1:51.29.

Vanscoy opened her first three-win day of the season as part of the 200 medley relay. She teamed with Mariel Ramey (Framingham, Mass./Keystone National), Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) and Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) for a time of 1:59.12.

Vanscoy added victories in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. She touched first in the 100 with a time of 1:04.26 before winning the 200 in a time of 2:21.16.

Duesterhaus added a second victory, touching first in the 50 free with a time of 26.34 seconds.

Jessica Fry (St. Mary's, Ga./Camden County) and Rachel Walega (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) won a pair of individual events for McDaniel.

Fry was victorious in the 200 free with a time of 2:02.62 before later winning the 500 free in a time of 5:24.95.

Walega won both breaststroke events, taking the 100 in a time of 1:10.79 and the 200 in a time of 2:39.75.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) rounded out the Green Terror winners, touching first in the 200 butterfly with a personal-best time of 2:26.53, which ranks ninth all-time.

Fry also touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.50 but was swimming as exhibition. She was also part of the exhibition 200 free relay with Meg Protzman (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales), Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grace) that swam the fastest time (1:48.93).

Schickler was second in the 100 breaststroke behind Walega with a time of 1:16.43 while Lenz was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.61.

Holmes finished second to Duesterhaus in the 50 free (26.69) and second in the 100 free (58.22).

The Green Terror concludes the regular season at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Meet time is 1 p.m.
