Duesterhaus, Fry win three times

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel touched first in nine of the 11 events to help capture a 56-39 Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming victory over Washington (Md.) on Saturday.

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) and Jessica Fry (St. Mary's, Ga./Camden County) each won three races for the Green Terror (4-7, 1-5 CC), who finished the dual-meet season with three straight wins.

Ellie Miskiel notched the lone individual victory for the Shorewomen (3-8, 1-6 CC), touching first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.61.

Duesterhaus opened her three-win afternoon, anchoring the 200 medley relay to its sixth win of the season. Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Rachel Walega (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) joined Duesterhaus to finish with a time of 1:53.93.

Duesterhaus later added wins in the 50 free (25.51 seconds) and 100 free (56.35).

Fry continued her personal win streak, recording eight victories during the team's three-meet winning streak. The senior shaved more than eight seconds off her previous best time in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:47.32 on Saturday – the second-best time on the Green Terror's all-time list.

Fry doubled back in the 200 free with another personal-best time, winning with a time of 2:00.11 to move up to fifth on that all-time list.

Later in the meet, Fry won the 500 free with a time of 5:21.38.

Vanscoy, Walega and Lenz all added a second victory, touching first in each of the stroke events. Lenz won the 100 butterfly (1:04.03) while Vanscoy took the 100 backstroke (1:02.96). Walega rounded out the individual winners with a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.54).

Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) and Vanscoy finished 2-3 in the 200 IM. Schickler edged Vanscoy by 0.26 seconds with a time of 2:24.32.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) finished second to Lenz in the butterfly with a time of 1:06.61.

Morgan Phillips, Ashley Mauizi, Hilary Badger and Alicia Howard won the 200 free relay for Washington in a time of 1:45.71.

The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championships hosted by Gettysburg on Feb. 17-19. Action begins on Friday at 11 a.m.
