Schickler wins twice
EMMITTSBURG, Md. – McDaniel won three individual events to forge a split in a double-dual meet with a pair of Division I programs to open the women's swimming season on Saturday.
The Green Terror (1-1) defeated Virginia Military Institute 181-57 while falling to host Mount St. Mary's, 152-108.
Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) paced McDaniel with wins in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, swimming in a meters pool. Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) added a win in the 100 backstroke.
Ally Van Valen recorded the lone win for the Keydets (0-7), touching first in the 400 freestyle.
The Mountaineers (2-1) won the other 10 events contested behind three individual wins each by Erin Regan and Catriona Coppler.
Schickler touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.13 while taking the 200-meter edition in 2:56.17. Schickler took both races by nearly a full second.
Duesterhaus' backstroke win came in a time of 1:09.06, winning by more than a second. She was also second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.42 seconds.
Schickler joined Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) to finish second overall in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:08.95.
Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl (Turlock, Calif./J.H. Pitman) touched second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:42.89.
Caroline Sussman (Washington, D.C./Spring Ridge) placed second in the 100 freestyle (1:02.67) while Duesterhaus was third (1:04.99).
Vanscoy added a second second-place finish, completing the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:34.75.
Jenny Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./TLCI) was second in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:54.59.
Sussman, Holmes, Duesterhaus joined Emily Gross (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) to finish second in the 200 free relay (1:55.01).
The Green Terror opens the Centennial Conference schedule at Swarthmore on Saturday. Meet time is 2 p.m.
