Free relay caps home slate with pool record

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel won nine of the first 11 events competed to open up a 67-29 lead, defeating Bryn Mawr 67-52 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Saturday.

Swimming the final event as exhibition, the 400 free relay led the Green Terror (4-7, 1-5 CC) with a pool record time of 3:45.05. The quartet of Caroline Sussman (Washington, D.C./Spring Ridge), Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life), Allison Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) edged the previous best mark at Harlow Pool by 0.63 seconds. It was also the fourth-best time in program history.

Schickler, Duesterhaus and Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) each recorded two official victories for McDaniel.

Meredith Davis paced the Owls (2-7, 0-6 CC) with three wins. She touched first in the 50 free (25.73 seconds) before winning the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.31. She was also part of the 400 free relay, which was credited with the victory, joining Carolyn Gee, Ruth Logan and Sahara Clement for a time of 4:02.91.

Duesterhaus, Schickler, Vanscoy and Sussman led off the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:17.62.

Schickler added a victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:35.66, ranking fifth on the all-time list.

Duesterhaus won the 100 free in a time of 56.02 seconds while Vanscoy touched first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:20.35.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:04.47. She also turned in the best time in the 100 butterfly but as exhibition. Her time of 1:03.06 ranks eighth all-time.

Mariel Ramey (Framingham, Mass./Keystone National) won the 1000 freestyle (11:51.35) before Elisa Santoni (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:07.32).

Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl (Turlock, Calif./J.H. Pitman) was victorious in the 200 butterfly (2:24.10) while Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) won the 500 free (5:31.48) to round out McDaniel winners.

Sussman added a second-place finish in the 100 breaststoke (1:16.54) while Cannon was second in the 100 free (58.03) and Santoni was second in the 200 backstroke (2:26.62).

Meg Protzman (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:09.57).

Jenny Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./T.L.C.I.) finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:31.63) while Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) touched second in the 50 free (26.04).

The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Meet time is 12 p.m.
