Trio notch double-win days in finale

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – McDaniel touched first in eight of the first nine events en route to a 117-79 Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming victory over Washington (Md.) in the dual-meet finale on Saturday.

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) and Caroline Sussman (Washington, D.C./Spring Ridge) each won two individual events to lead the Green Terror (5-7, 2-5 CC) in its second straight win.

Ellie Miskiel notched the two individual-event victories for the Shorewomen (3-8, 1-6 CC), touching first in the 200 IM (2:19.10) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.39).

Duesterhaus was victorious in the 50 free (25.41) and 100 backstroke (1:02.16) for her two individual wins while Sussman added individual victories for McDaniel in the 100 (56.19) and 200 (2:00.65) freestyle events.

Sussman and Duesterhaus also joined Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) and Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) to notch the best time in the 200 free relay, albeit as exhibition. The quartet's time of 1:44.03 ranks ninth on the program's all-time list.

Ashley Maurizi, Sam Gross, Kelsey McGrellis and Sarah Sykes were awarded the victory in the event with a combined time of 1:51.42 for Washington.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) added a pair of wins for the Green Terror. She joined Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Leanna Jasek-Rysdahl (Turlock, Calif./J.H. Pitman) and Holmes to open the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:58.79.

Individually, Jacobs also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.81.

Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) and Jenny Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./T.L.C.I.) rounded out the individual winners for McDaniel, taking the distance races. McClellan touched first in the 1000 and now ranks eighth all-time with her time of 11:14.66. Grillo won the 500 in a time of 5:34.70.

Allison Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Grillo make it a sweep for the Green Terror in the 200 free. Cannon was second (2:05.510 while Grillo was third (2:06.16).

Schickler finished second in the 200 IM (2:20.58) and 500 free (5:35.87) while Jasek-Rysdahl was second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.23).

Elisa Santoni (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) finished third in the 1000 (12:12.15) while Mariel Ramey (Framingham, Mass./Keystone National) touched third in the 100 backstroke (1:07.13).

Holmes was third in the 50 with a time of 26.03 seconds while Cannon was third in the 100 with a time of 57.26.

The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 22-24.
