Duesterhaus wins twice in victory

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – McDaniel won seven of the first eight events to defeat Bryn Mawr 99-68 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Saturday.

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) won twice to pace the Green Terror (6-5, 3-3 CC), who swam the final two events as exhibition after the meet victory was secured but still recorded the fastest times.

Rebecca Craig led the Owls (2-7, 0-6 CC), touching first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:23.26.

Duesterhaus won both sprint events, taking the 50 (25.71 seconds) and 100 (56.20) freestyle races.

Mary Concannon (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley), Kelly Lewis (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill), Juliann Rossi (Marriottsville, Md./McDonogh) and Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) led off the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay, combining for a time of 4:24.19.

Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) and Emily Gross (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:05.57 and 2:08.50, respectively, to stretch the lead to 26-10.

Gross also finished second to Duesterhaus in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.17 seconds.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) won the 400 IM with a time of 4:52.47. Sydney Knadler (Crowley Lake, Calif./Mammoth) and Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) finished second (5:00.84) and third (5:02.57), respectively.

Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.36 after finishing second in the 50 free with a time of 27.48.

Melissa Fry (St. Mary's, Ga./Camden County) rounded out the official winners with a victory in the 500 free (6:03.91).

McClellan was second in the 200 butterfly (2:27.98) while Concannon placed fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:25.18).

Mariel Ramey (Framingham, Mass./Keystone National) finished second in the 200 backstroke while Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) was third in the 100 free (59.81 seconds).

Lewis recorded the fastest time in the 200 breaststroke but was swimming as exhibition. Her time of 2:37.21 ranks seventh on the program's all-time list.

Knadler, Ramey, Rossi and McClellan registered the fastest 400 freestyle relay time, turning in a time of 3:53.54 as exhibition.

McDaniel closes out the dual meet season at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Meet time is 12 p.m.
