McDaniel notches initial win of season

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kristina Shavirov notched a pair of victories to lead McDaniel to a 6-3 victory over Stevenson in non-conference women’s tennis action on Thursday.

            The Green Terror (1-5) took two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches for its first victory since a 5-4 win over Ursinus on Apr. 23, 2006.
            Stephanie Eyler led the Mustangs (3-6-1) with a pair of victories, teaming with Samm Rasnake for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles before winning 6-2, 6-2 at third singles.
            Shavirov paired with Jamie Latham (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) for an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles before Shavirov won her fourth singles match, 6-0, 6-0.
            Devan Hamrit was also a double winner for McDaniel, teaming with Jessica Gelber for an 8-3 win at third doubles and winning 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles.
            Emily Taylor (Portland, Ore./Caitlin Gabel) and Brittany Starlings rounded out the Green Terror victors at first and second singles, respectively.
            McDaniel returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Match time is 3 p.m.
