Pollard takes 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Hood won the top two doubles flights to propel the squad to a 6-2 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's tennis action on Friday.

Laura Pollard (Federalsburg, Md./Colonel Richardson) led the Green Terror (2-1) with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at third singles.

Emily Maerz led the Blazers (2-2) in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 slot.

Maerz and Emily Schrodel took an 8-1 decision at No. 1 doubles before the teams split a pair of close decisions in the other two spots. Elise O'Mera (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Nicole Arnold (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) took third doubles 8-6 while Laura Saad and Kirsten Friend were victorious 9-8, taking a 7-3 decision in the tiebreaker at second doubles.

Schrodel rounded out a 2-0 day with a three-set victory at second singles. She took the first set 6-2 before Kiersten Patron (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) forced a super-tiebreaker with a 6-1 victory. Schrodel prevailed 10-8 in the tiebreaking set.

Saad added a 2-0 day, taking fourth singles, 6-4, 6-3.

Sixth singles was not played to conclusion due to darkness. Nalla Tejera took the first set 6-3 before Sara Yost (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) won the second set 6-1 to force what would have been a 10-point super-tiebreaker but the coaches agreed to call it a draw with the match already decided.

The Green Terror concludes the fall schedule at home against Trinity (D.C.) on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
