Kaler wins 5K

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) won the 5,000 meters to lead McDaniel at the Orange and Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna in women's indoor track and field action on Sunday.

Kaler was one of three different Green Terror athletes to hit Centennial Conference (CC) qualifying standards at the non-scoring meet, finishing with a time of 19:33.87.

Jasmine McCormick (Antioch, Calif./Holy Name) saw the most action during the day, competing in four events and qualifying for the conference meet in three.

On the track, she was tied for seventh in the 60 meters, just missing the finals with a time of 8.74 seconds. She was also 10th in the 200 with a time of 29.37.

McCormick also hit the CC mark in the high jump, clearing 1.37 meters in her first time competing in the event. The mark places her seventh on the Green Terror's all-time list. She was also 17th in the long jump with a leap of 4.04 meters to round out her day.

Jasmine Scott (Derwood, Md./Bullis) added a pair of second-place finishes. In the preliminaries of the 60, she ran a time of 8.25 seconds before improving her time but not her position in the finals with a time of 8.18. Later in the day, she rounded out a pair of CC times with a sprint of 27.23 in the 200 to place second.

Missy Black (Atglen, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) added a top-five finish, placing fourth in the mile with a time of 5:55.23.

Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington Prep) and Avalon McOmber (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added top-10 showings in the 5,000. Shinn was seventh in a time of 21:27.75 while McOmber followed her across with a time of 21:34.51.

Sarah Holbrook (Winchester, Va./John Handley) was 14th in the 3,000 (13:19.97) while Ashley Meister (Vienna, Va./James Madison) finished 15th in the weight throw (8.06 meters) and 21st in the shot put (7.59).

Forest Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), Katharine Armstrong (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) and Sarah Kulp (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) rounded out the McDaniel competitors, competiting in the mile. Fleischer was 20th (7:42.69) while Armstrong and Kulp were 21st (7:54.55) and 22nd (8:21.29), respectively.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Hagerstown Invitational on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.
