McCormick takes bronze in pentathlon

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Jasmine McCormick (Antioch, Calif./Holy Name) finished third in the pentathlon to earn the event's initial bronze medal at the 2013 Centennial Conference (CC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Ursinus on Friday and Saturday.

As a team, the Green Terror finished ninth with 13 points. Johns Hopkins won the 10-team championship in a runaway with 231 points, outdistancing Muhlenberg and Haverford by 139 points.

McCormick finished the pentathlon with 2,766 points – eight points better than her previous-best performance at Navy earlier this month.

Her top individual performance came in the opening 60-meter hurdles, finishing second with a program-record time of 9.71 seconds. She was also second in the 800 with a time of 2:32.71 and third in the shot put with a toss of 9.52 meters. Her hurdle performance earned her the most events of any single event with 767. She earned 659 in the 800.

Claire Lawson (McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville) and Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) joined McCormick in the five-eventer on Friday. Lawson was 15th with 2,248 ppints while Martin finished 18th with 1,871.

Lawson's best finish came in the 800, placing sixth with a time of 2:38.12. Her top point event came in the 60 hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 10.62 seconds, which earned her 601 points. She earned 595 points for her 800 time.

Martin's best finish came in the high jump, finishing tied for 12th with a jump of 1.41 meters. It was also her top point event with 523 points. She was 13th in the shot put with a toss of 7.59 meters.

McCormick added an individual seventh-place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.05 seconds in the finals. She was eighth in the prelims with a time of 9.98. Lawson was 14th in the event (10.76).

Martin also competed in the high jump on Saturday, clearing 1.42 meters to finish 15th.

The duo also joined Jasmine Scott (Derwood, Md./Bullis) and Taylor Stillings (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) to finish sixth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:54.04.

Lawson and Stillings were also part of the distance medley relay, joining Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) and Chloe Allen-Gorman (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) to finish eighth with a time of 13:22.49, which ranks fifth in program history.

Scott was eighth in the 200 with a time of 27.38 seconds. She also just missed the finals of the 60, placing ninth with a time of 8.40 in the prelims.

Stillings was 21st in the 200 with a time of 29.03.

Kelsey Dickman (Abington, Md./Bel Air) rounded out the McDaniel competitors, finishing 11th in the shot put with a toss of 10.38 meters.

The Green Terror opens the outdoor season at the Battleground Relays hosted by Mary Washington on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 22-23.
