McCormick takes eighth in pentathlon

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Jasmine McCormick (Antioch, Calif./Holy Name) finished eighth in the pentathlon with a personal-best score of 2,987 points to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the Sweetheart Multimix Meet hosted by Navy in women's indoor track and field action on Tuesday.

Among McCormick's performances in the pentathlon was a program record-tying performance in the high jump (1.53 meters) to lead the Green Terror, who finished the meet with 14 points. Navy won the meet with 199 points while Maryland was second with 135.

McCormick also turned in the second best performance in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.77 seconds en route to the No. 2 pentathlon performance in program history. She also added a personal-best throw of 10.09 meters in the shot put, which ranks sixth all-time.

Kelly Gibson, Danielle Fatzinger (North Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) and Abby Phillips (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) all turned in collegiate-best performances in the vertical jumps.

Gibson finished seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters to hit the Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying mark and ranks fifth in program history.

Fatzinger cleared 2.40 meters in the pole vault. The CC-qualifying vault ranks seventh all-time. Phillips cleared 2.25 meters and now ranks eighth all-time.

Claire Lawson (McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville) turned in a pair of conference-qualifying times on the track. She was ninth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.67 seconds and finished 22nd in the 400 with a time of 1:05.30.

Chloe Allen-Gorman (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) added an eight-place finish in the 800 with a CC-qualifying time of 2:27.53.

Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) rounded out the conference qualifiers, finishing 12th in the mile with a time of 5:27.74 to move into sixth place all-time.

Kelsey Minyon (Millville, Del./Indian River), Lucy Benson (Wilmington, Del./Sanford) and Amelia Lawrence (Cabin John, Md./Walt Whitman) all finished with personal-best times in the 1000. Minyon was seventh in a time of 3:40.84 while Benson was eighth with a time of 3:41.76. Lawrence finished eighth in a time of 3:48.65.

McDaniel returns to action at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson on Saturday.
