Dickman sets program, meet record in shot to lead McDaniel at Twilight Meet

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kelsey Dickman (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) won the shot put with a program-record toss of 12.45 meters to lead McDaniel at its own Twilight Meet in women's outdoor track and field action on Wednesday.

Hosting a meet for the first time since the 2006 Centennial Conference (CC) championship meet, the Green Terror brought back its twilight meet but ran the track events under the newly-installed lights of Scott S. Bair Stadium for the first time.

Dickman set the only new meet record on the women's side, extending her own program record in the shot put by 0.90 meters.

Dickman was also second in the javelin (20.21) and third in the discus (25.50), hitting the CC standard in all three throws.

Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) was the workhorse of the meet for McDaniel, competing in six events with two victories.

Corson won the 400 meters in a time of 1:00.91 and also took first place in the long jump with a leap of 4.80 meters to qualify for the conference meet in both events.

She also hit CC marks in the 100 with a third-place finish (13.86 seconds) and 200 with a fourth-place showing (28.00). Corson was also second in the high jump (1.32 meters) and fifth in the shot put (6.66).

Sarah Byron (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished second in both the 100 (13.67) and 200 (27.78), hitting conference marks in both events.

Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) placed second in the 400 (1:01.59) and third in the 200 (27.83), hitting the necessary standard in both.

Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington Prep) and Joy Chand (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) made their debuts in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing second and third with conference-qualifying times of 12;42.16 and 13:52.18, respectively.

Green Terror alum Kelly Gruber won the event with a time of 12:08.24 to establish a meet record – the first time the women's steeplechase has been contested in the annals of the McDaniel Twilight Meet.

Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) rounded out the McDaniel qualifiers, finishing third in the shot put (10.51) and fourth in the discus (25.20).

The Green Terror returns to action at the Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
