McCormick takes silver in heptathlon
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Jasmine McCormick (Antioch, Calif./Holy Name) finished second in the heptathlon with 3,946 points to lead McDaniel to a 10th-place finish at the 2012 Centennial Conference (CC) women's outdoor track and field championship hosted by Ursinus on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Terror accumulated 14 points at the championship. Johns Hopkins ran away with the team title, scoring 208.5 points to the 116 scored by second-place Dickinson.
McCormick won the final event of the heptathlon, taking the 800 in a time of 2:29.43 for 700 points. She also added a second-place showing in the first of the seven events, finishing the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.46 seconds. She was third in the high jump (1.49 meters) and shot put (9.41 meters).
McCormick also finished seventh in the open 100 hurdles with a time of 16.95 seconds, improving 0.02 seconds from the prelims, where she was fifth. She was also 17th in the open shot put (8.83 meters).
Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) finished fifth in the 400 finals with a time of 1:00.63, improving 0.06 seconds and one place from the prelims.
Teresa Paz (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) finished 10th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:14.12 while Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington Prep) crossed 16th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:07.13.
Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) posted a 19th-place finish in the 800 (2:32.01) and 29th-place showing in the 1,500 (5:05.31).
Corson, McCormick, Paz and Kaler combined to finish the 4x400-meter relay ninth with a time of 4:21.55.
Corson and Kaler joined Shinn and Missy Black (Atglen, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) to place ninth in the 4x800 relay, crossing in a time of 10:27.06.
