McDaniel splits pair of matches on opening day at Battlefield Classic
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) recorded 29 kills and nine total blocks to lead McDaniel to a 1-1 showing in the first round of pool play at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg in non-conference volleyball action on Friday.
The Green Terror (3-2) dropped its opening match of the weekend to
Scranton, 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-22, 25-15) before earning the split
with a 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 27-25, 20-25, 15-9) victory over Richard
Stockton.
Against the Royals, Herrgott recorded 16 kills while Sara
Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) notched 10.
Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk
Academy) added 34 assists and three aces to the
attack.
Jenna Filipone (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) added a
team-best 17 digs to go with eight kills. Lanni Reisinger
(Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Crest) also added eight kills while
Kristie Fourcade (Ijamsville, Md./St. Johns at Prospect
Hall) chipped in with 10 digs.
In its third five-set match of the young season, Herrgott once
again keyed the attack with 13 ills while Reisinger added nine.
Nuckles added 28 assists and two aces.
Filipone steadied the defense with a career-best 31 digs. Fourcade
and Amy Tignanelli (Baltimore, Md./The Catholic School of
Baltimore) also reached double-digit digs with 18 and 15,
respectively.
McDaniel returns to action in the second day of the Battlefield
Classic on Saturday. Match opponents and times will be determined
by the remainder of play on Friday.
