Frostburg sweeps out of town with win
McDaniel gets 10-assist, 12-dig performance from Nuckles in 3-0 loss to Bobcats
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Brooke Winterling recorded 17 kills to go with six aces, leading Frostburg to a 3-0 win over McDaniel in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday.
The Bobcats (10-1) raced out to a 22-10 lead in the first set and never looked back, taking the opening set 25-18 before completing the sweep with 25-17 and 25-20 wins in sets two and three, respectively.
Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) led the Green Terror (5-4) with four kills, 10 assists and 12 digs on a night where the team recorded just 20 kills in the three-set match.
Winterling had nearly half of Frostburg's 35 kills and more than half of her team's 11 aces.
Sarah Stephens added eight kills and a team-high 12 digs for the Bobcats while Jamie Thomas chipped in 11 digs.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) and Anne McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) joined Nuckles to lead the McDaniel attack with four kills apiece. Herrgott added three total blocks while McShea had eight digs.
Katie Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York) added three aces and five digs.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg on Saturday. The tri-match with the Mules and Wilkes starts at 12 p.m.
