McDaniel drops two at W&L

Green Terror opens two-day tournament with pair of losses

LEXINGTON, Va. – Kelly Toms (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) recorded 11 kills in the first match of the night to lead McDaniel at the Washington and Lee Invitational in non-conference volleyball action on Friday.

The Green Terror (0-6) dropped a 3-0 decision to Southern Virginia (2-4), falling 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 to open the tournament. The host Generals (1-0) also downed McDaniel, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-20).

Against Southern Virginia, Toms recorded six kills while Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk) added four. Jackie Hawkins (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added 13 assists to the offense.

Sarah Byron (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Katie Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York) keyed the defense with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

Against Washington and Lee, Toms and Nuckles led the attack with five and four kills, respectively. Hawkins added 12 assists, eight digs and four aces.

Byron steaded the defense with 12 digs while Ferguson added 11.

The Green Terror returns to action on the second day of the Washington and Lee Invitational on Saturday. Action begins at 10:30 a.m.
