Swarthmore sweeps McDaniel
Garnet break up deadlock in middle of conference standings
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Kathryn Montemurro recorded 16 kills to lead Swarthmore to a 3-0 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
The Garnet (12-4, 2-1 CC) took the first two sets 25-8 and 25-11, respectively, before the Green Terror (1-13, 1-2 CC) kept the third set close but an 8-tie, 6-lead change battle went to the hosts 25-22 to wrap up the sweep.
Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the McDaniel attack with nine kills while Jackie Hawkins (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added nine assists.
Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) added four kills, five assists and six digs.
Sarah Byron (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) notched 10 digs and one of the team's three service aces. Hawkins notched nine digs while Katie Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York) had eight and McShea tallied seven.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Goucher on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
