Catholic sweeps McDaniel behind 12 aces
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Catholic recorded 12 aces as part of a 3-0 victory over McDaniel in non-conference volleyball action on Tuesday.
Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) had an all-around effort for the Green Terror (0-7), recording four kills, four assists, two aces and five digs.
Molly Owens led the Cardinals (8-1) with six of the team's aces. Michaela Carroll added four to go with 24 assists and five digs.
Isabel Eberstadt and Claudia Jean paced the attack with six kills apiece while Kristina Purcell and Jean steadied the defense with 16 and 12 digs, respectively.
McShea served McDaniel to a 5-0 lead in the first set, including one of her aces before Eberstadt notched the first two of her kills to key a 6-0 counter.
Knotted at 16-all, a Jean kill sparked a stretch of three straight points to put Catholic on top for good en route to a 25-18 win.
A pair of Carroll aces sparked a 7-0 start to the second set for the Cardinals. Owens added all six of her aces during a run of 10 straight points that pushed the lead from 8-2 to 18-2 en route to a 25-7 victory.
Carroll served Catholic to a 6-0 start in the final set en route to the 25-6 win, capping the Cardinals eight sweep in eight victories this season.
McDaniel returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg on Friday. Match time is 7 p.m.
