McShea records seven digs, five assists

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford jumped on top 11-0 in the first set en route to a 3-0 sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.

Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the Green Terror (0-23, 0-8 CC) with seven digs and five assists to go with two kills.

Caitlyn Tranquillo recorded 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Fords (11-11, 5-3 CC), who stayed in the thick of the conference playoff race entering the final week of the season.

Back-to-back Jenine Abbassi kills keyed the match-opening 11-0 run. Emily Mills put down back-to-back kills to key a matching 11-0 run at the end of the set for a 25-5 victory.

A McShea ace staked McDaniel to a 3-1 advantage in the second set but Haverford countered with eight straight points for a 9-3 lead en route to a 25-9 win.

Three straight Abbassi kills in the third set keyed a 5-0 open en route to a 25-11 capper to the sweep.

Mills and Abbassi added seven kills apiece for the Fords, who had 41 kills on the day and hit .411.

Melissa Weldon (Broomall, Pa./Country Day School of the Sacred Heart) and Sarah Marshall (Lexington, Mass./Gann Academy) each had two kills to match McShea. Marshall added two assists and four digs.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
