WESTMINSTER, Md. – Dickinson took three close sets, including a 28-26 third set, to defeat McDaniel 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (5-12, 0-5 CC) with her eighth double-double of the season, recording 10 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) registered a team-best 15 kills while hitting .256. Martin hit .217 on the night, including .454 through the first two sets.
Emily Smith led the Red Devils (3-11, 2-3 CC) on attack with 15 kills while Grace Morgan steadied a balanced defensive effort with seven digs.
McDaniel jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set before Dickinson rallied to tie the set at 5-alla nd later recorded six straight points to take a 13-8 lead en route to a 25-19 victory.
In the second set, it was back-to-back Sam Iazzetta aces that pushed the Red Devil lead to 20-14 en route to a 25-20 win.
Set No. 3 featured 19 ties and nine lead changes.
The Green Terror jumped out to a 6-2 lead before another Iazzetta ace pulled the visitors within 6-5.
An Avery Zuvic ace tied the set at 8-all and neither team led by more than two the rest of the way before Smith ended the night with a kill for the 28-26 win.
Dickinson finished with 11 aces on the night, including four from Iazzetta and three from Zuvic.
Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) finished with 21 assists and 10 digs for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at the Goucher Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Green Terror takes on Stevenson to open play at 2 p.m. on Friday.
