Rose leads McDaniel to 1-1 day
ALTOONA, Pa. – McDaniel extended its winning streak to nine matches with a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Newark before having it snapped in five sets to host Penn State-Altoona in non-conference volleyball action on Saturday.
Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) led the Green Terror (12-4) with 23 kills in the two matches, including a career-high 20 in the five-set loss to the Lions.
With the 25-17, 25-9, 25-13 win over the Scarlet Knights (5-9), McDaniel registered its ninth straight victory – the longest streak since 1993.
Penn State-Altoona (10-8) topped the Green Terror 25-23 and 25-18 in the first two sets, respectively, before the visitors rallied to force a deciding set, 26-24 and 25-20. The Lions prevailed in the final set, 15-11.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the way for McDaniel in the win over Rutgers-Newark, recording nine kills, two aces and two blocks. Emme Petti (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) added eight kills and three blocks. Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) and Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) chipped in seven kills apiece. Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) led the defense with 12 digs.
Corral had six total blocks while Rose added four.
In addition to Rose's 20 kills against Altoona, Martin added 17 to go with 12 digs. Moyer and Kellen added 25 and 18 assists, respectively.
Weger steadied the defense with 14 digs to lead a quartet of players who reached double figures. Kellen added 12 while Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) had 10.
Rose and Corral also contributed four total blocks each.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
