Martin sees 20/20 to key McDaniel sweep

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel recorded 91 digs as a team in a 3-0 win over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action, starting a 2-0 Saturday.

The Green Terror (15-5, 4-2 CC) defeated the Garnet (11-8, 1-4 CC) in straight sets 25-23, 25-19 before following the victory up with a 25-4, 25-7, 25-12 win over Trinity (D.C.).

Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the way in the conference victory, notching 20 kills and 26 digs – the first McDaniel player to reach 20 kills and 20 digs in a three-set match. Martin recorded her 20 kills against just three error in 45 attempts to hit a team-best .378.

Danielle Sullivan led Swarthmore with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Aces from Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) and Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) keyed a 7-3 stretch that helped the Green Terror open up a 17-10 advantage en route to the seven-point victory.

A 19-play rally in the second set ended with a Martin kill, knotting the set at 15-all – one of 10 second-set ties.

Kills from Martin around a Sullivan knockdown capped the 25-23 win.

Back-to-back Emme Petti (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) keyed a 4-0 run late in the third set that opened up a 22-15 advantage en route to the six-point victory.

Alyssa Gilboy (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) added 17 digs while Weger had 16. Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) chipped in 15 digs to go with her 28 assists and two blocks. Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) added six kills, three blocks and two aces. Moyer added 14 assists and nine digs.

Against the Tigers (1-16), Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) recorded five of her eight service aces in a 10-0 run that keyed the 25-4 victory.

Duff served another 10 straight points in the second set to open up an 11-1 lead en route to the 25-7 win.

Trinity closed within 16-9 in the final set before the Green Terror notched nine of the final 12 points.

Rose led the attack with 11 kills in 14 attempts without an error to hit .786 on the match for McDaniel, which hit .557 as a team. Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) and Petti added six kills each while Bryanna Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) chipped in five. Kellen added 21 assists and four aces.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Haverford on Thursday. Match time is 7 p.m.
