FREDERICK, Md. – McDaniel used a pair of late rallies to complete a 3-0 sweep of Hood in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday.

Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) led the Green Terror (9-1) to its eighth straight win with nine kills against just one error.

McDaniel took the opening set 25-15 before needing late rallies in each of the second and third sets for 28-26 and 26-24 wins, respectively.

Elana Young led the Blazers (0-11) with eight kills.

Three Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) kills staked the Green Terror to a 6-1 lead in the first set en route to the 10-point win.

Hood jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set before a Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman) ace evened the score at 6-all. The teams traded points until five straight Blazer points put the hosts back in front, 14-10.

Trailing 24-21 on a Young block, Embry knocked down a ball from Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) then took the serve and prompted served an ace to close the margin to 24-23 and force a timeout.

Back-to-back Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) blocks put McDaniel up, 25-24. Young and Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) traded kills before a Wells ace ended it.

Hood opened up a lead as large as 14-7 in the third set. McDaniel still found itself in a 21-17 hole before a service error and Rath ace closed the deficit to two. Three Isabel Paci (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) kills gave the visitors a 24-23 lead before a Payton Bellela kill tied the set once again.

Lugar and Rath knocked down the final two kills to secure the sweep.

Wells contributed 18 assists and five digs to go with her ace and two total blcoks. Paci and Lorenzen chipped in seven and six kills, respectively.

Bauman paced the defense once again with 26 digs.

McDaniel returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
