WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel used solid defense to hand Gettysburg its first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) led the Green Terror (10-1, 1-0 CC) to its ninth straight win with 10 kills and six total blocks.
Allie Stranick recorded 16 kills and 11 digs to pace the Bullets (12-1, 1-1 CC), who saw its best start since 1991 come to an end with the loss.
Gettysburg built a 13-8 lead in the first set before a pair of Lugar kills around a Maddie Weikert kill closed the deficit to 14-10. Three straight errors and a Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) ace evened the score at 14-all.
The teams traded kills before Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman) knocked down a kill for the 25-22 win.
Leading 16-10 in the second set, a service error and eight straight service points from Bauman that included kills by three different players, three blocks by Emma Lorernzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) and an ace capped a 25-10 win.
Gettysburg turned the tables in the third set, jumping out to a 15-4 lead behind a pair of Stephanie Blair aces en route to a 25-12 win
Edelstein notched an ace on the first point of fourth set and the hosts never trailed in a 25-19 victory.
Embry led the attack with 12 kills to go with nine digs. Bauman chipped in 30 digs while Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) added 15 digs. Edelstein chipped in 23 assists and nine digs. Lorzenzen had five blocks to go with four kills.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
