WASHINGTON, D.C. – McDaniel swept Catholic 3-0 to record its 11th straight victory in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday.
Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman) led the Green Terror (12-1) with 16 kills and hit .312 on the night. With the victory, head coach Jessica Wolverton notched her 100th collegiate coaching win. She is 90-67 in her sixth season at the helm of McDaniel.
Tara Remel and Brynn Cooley led a balanced attack for the Cardinals (10-8) with six kills each.
After six ties in the first 16 points, Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) put down a kill to give the visitors a 9-8 lead they did not relinquish. A pair of attack errors and a Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) kill stretched the lead to 12-8 and forced a timeout en route to a 25-16 victory in the opening set.
The second set featured nine ties and eight lead changes until an Embry kill knotted the set at 18-all.
An attacking error and another Embry knockdown put McDaniel in front 20-18 en route to a 25-22 win.
Catholic took a 14-11 lead in the third set before three straight Green Terror points, capped by a Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Calif../Rock Canyon) ace evened the score at 14-all.
After the teams traded service errors, a Cardinal attack error and a Gayle Edelstein (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) kill and back-to-back from Embry plus a Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) ace put the guests in front 20-15 en route to a 25-16 victory.
Wells and Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) added seven kills each. Edelstein and Wells contributed 18 and nine assists to the attack, respectively. Bauman led the defense with 20 digs. Wells chipped in three total blocks.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) and Marywood for a tri-match on Saturday. The first match begins at 12 p.m.
