Embry records double-double with 13 kills, 11 digs

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Johns Hopkins took the third set 25-20 to key a 3-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.

Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman) led the Green Terror (15-3, 4-2 CC) with her seventh double-double of the season, recording 13 kills and 11 digs.

Louisa Kishton paced the 18th-ranked Blue Jays (17-2, 6-0 CC) with a double-double of her, recording a match-high 15 kills to go with 20 digs.

The first set was back-and-forth, featuring eight ties and three lead changes. McDaniel established a lead as large as 12-8 on an Isabel Paci (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) kill before Johns Hopkins responded with eight of the next 11 points to take its first lead, 16-15.

Tied at 24-all on an Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) kill, Elizabeth Wuerstle put down a kill and a block by Kishton and Kristi Rhead gave the visitors a 26-24 win.

A Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) ace keyed a 6-2 start to the second set by the Green Terror. The lead gradually grew to as large as 24-10 before McDaniel evened the match with a 25-12 victory.

Tied at 6-all in the third set, a Wuerstle kill and ace put Johns Hopkins in front for good. Rhead and Natalie Aston combined for a block to capture the 25-20 win.

Three straight Wuerstle aces helped the Blue Jays jump out to a 13-3 lead in the fourth set en route to a 25-13 victory.

Bauman steadied the defense with 24 digs while Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) added 12 digs. Bauman chipped in three aces. Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) added 14 assists.

Lugar finished with six total blocks while Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added five blcoks.

McDaniel returns to action at Haverford for a trimatch with the Fords and Cabrini on Saturday. The first match begins at 12 p.m.
