Veterans lead McDaniel in season-opening action

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Emily Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) finished 28th overall to lead McDaniel to a fourth-place showing at the 2011 Baltimore Metro Meet in season-opening women's cross country action on Friday.

The Green Terror finished with 113 points in the six-team invitational that was hosted on the squad's home course.

Peoples turned in a time of 21:26.66 to place 28th but was just the third non-Towson or Johns Hopkins runner to cross the line. The Tigers edged the Blue Jays 29-30 in the team standings. Goucher, which had the other two runners ahead of Peoples in the finishing order, was third with 91 points.

Missy Black (Atglen, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) finished 33rd (21:35.32) and 34th (21:44.59), respectively.

Senior Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington) was 56th in a time of 23:25.56.

Newcomers Avalon McOmber (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and Carly Hamann (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood) rounded out the team's top six with times of 24:10.38 and 24:26.32, respectively.

McDaniel returns to action on the same course in its own Green Terror Invitational on Sept. 10. The first race begins at 9:45 a.m.
