Merritt Fitness Center Hours

All gym users are required to present their McDaniel ID to the desk staff at the fitness center.  Thank you.

 

FITNESS CENTER HOURS

Fall and Spring Semester Schedule (begins when undergrad semester starts):

Monday-Friday: 6am-11pm
Saturday: 10am-7pm
Sunday: 10am-10pm

Summer Semester Schedule (begins on spring semester finals week):

Monday-Thursday: 6am-9am, 11am-1pm, 4pm-7pm
Friday: 6am-9am, 11am-1pm
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: Closed 

Jan Term (begins when undergrad semester starts):

Monday-Thursday: 6am-7pm
Friday: 6am-4pm
Saturday: 10am-4pm
Sunday: Closed

December Schedule (between Fall and Jan Term semesters): 

Monday-Thursday: 6am-9am, 11am-1pm, 4pm-7pm\
Friday: 6am-9am, 11am-1pm
Saturday and Sunday: Closed

The Fitness Center will be closed when campus is closed. Please take note of anticipated modifications and closings that will be posted on the front door of the Fitness Center and sent out on Campus Announcements to Faculty/Staff, Undergrad students, and Graduate students. Access after-hours is PROHIBITED to the general McDaniel community. Kinesiology, Athletics, and ROTC need to email Kurt Udseth at kudsethjr@mcdaniel.edu, either before or after, if the facility is used after hours.

Your McDaniel College ID (1Card) is required to enter the Merritt Fitness Center.

Fitness Center Rules:

  • Everyone is required to sign-in at the attendant desk and provide McDaniel College ID
  • Proper gym attire and footwear is required. No flip flops or sandals.
  • Only personal music devices may be used in the fitness center.
  • Always put equipment back when you are done.
  • Always use sanitizer wipes to clean pads and equipment immediately after you are done.
  • Enter and exit the fitness center through the main entry only.
  • Please be considerate and respectful of others.

Frequently Asked Questions – Merritt Fitness Center

Who can use the Fitness Center?

Current students, faculty, staff, immediate family members of faculty/staff, and/or guests accompanied by an individual with McDaniel ID. An ID card is required to enter the facility.

Where is the Fitness Center?

It is located in the Gill Center, adjacent to the Basketball Courts and Lobby area.

If I need assistance, have questions, or concerns who can help me?

The Fitness Center desk attendance can assist you, or you may contact the Fitness Center manager, Kurt Udseth, at 410-857-2432, or kudsethjr@mcdaniel.edu.

If the Fitness Center is locked, how to I gain access using the keypad?

If the doors are locked, the Fitness Center is closed, and you cannot gain access.

I am faculty/staff that possesses an access code, can I use the Facility when it is closed?

Yes, but please clean up after yourself. Also, remember that no one is authorized to use the Fitness Center alone and not to give out your code for liability reasons. If unauthorized individuals are found using your code after hours, the code will be suspended.

Are there rules and user guidelines for the Fitness Center?

Yes, everyone is expected to comply with posted rules and standard gym etiquette. 

Can I wear bring my own speakers or listen to music without headphones?

No, not everyone enjoys the same type of music. This is not considerate of others and can disrupt others ability to focus and workout.

What type of dress/attire is authorized?

Loose and comfortable athletic clothing and supportive athletic shoes are suggested. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times. Sandals, flip flops, and ripped jeans are not allowed. 

Is there a place to store my things during my work out?

Yes, lockers are available on the second level at the top of the stairs. Please bring your own lock, but any locks left on overnight will be cut and discarded.

Can I bring and use my own Fitness Equipment at the Fitness Center?

Yes, as long as it doesn’t damage existing equipment or structures, you ca use it at your own risk.

Is there risk of injury?

Yes, just as there is with any exercise, the use of equipment and participation in physical activities do involve risk of injury and even death. You agree that your use of the Fitness Center is at your own risk and you assume full responsibility for all risks arising from your use of the Fitness Center.

Can I safely begin exercise or should I check with my doctor first?

If you have a physical or medical condition, impairment, disease, illness, or any other reason of concern that you feel you should not engage in physical activity, then you should consult your physician or qualified healthcare provided before beginning an exercise program. 

In the event of an emergency, what happens?

Refer to the “Emergencies” chapter in this book, but a immediate first step should be to call Campus Safety at EXT. 2202 with any concerns.

What else do I need to know about using the Fitness Center?

Read all signage posted in the facility. Signage will provide important information about rules, emergency, and safety notices, danger and warning statements, and other miscellaneous information.
