WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel College hosted the dedication of a new scoreboard in Harlow Pool on Saturday, Jan. 14, in honor of Kim Easterday who coached the Green Terror swim teams from 1976-2010. Under her leadership as swim coach, eight different Green Terror swimmers attained All-America status.
Easterday guided Centennial Conference (CC) champions with regularity throughout her career. Her understanding of the importance of academics is one of the many reasons she annually produced swimmers for the CC Academic Honor Roll, as well as Academic and Scholar All-American teams.
During her tenure on the Hill, Easterday has also served as the aquatics coordinator and head women's lacrosse coach. She is still on staff as the Director of Athletics Operations and is a lecturer in the Exercise Science and Physical Education Department.
"It was a complete surprise and such a surreal experience," Easterday said. "I am so appreciative of all of the time and effort that everyone put in to making this happen. I am so very thankful and was completely overwhelmed when I saw my family and the many alumni who were able to attend this special event."
The official dedication of the scoreboard took place during a brief ceremony prior to Saturday's home CC meet with Dickinson. The new Daktronics scoreboard upgrades the old board in the pool, which Easterday used for much of her tenure as coach.
The scoreboard, which features integrated timing and scoring, was made possible by an anonymous donor.
