AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Fitchburg State scored four runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 10-9 victory over McDaniel at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in baseball action on Sunday.
Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) led the Green Terror (3-2) with three hits.
Noah Milliard led the Falcons (3-1) with two hits and three RBIs.
Trailing 8-6, Fitchburg scored four times in the eighth inning to take a two-run lead. Matthew Pigitore rapped a one-out double before an error and stolen base put runners at second and third.
An Andrew Currie RBI single and two-out, three-run home run from Milliard capped the big inning.
McDaniel got one run back in the bottom of the frame on three straight singles with Ryan Downes (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) plating Rosanova. The Green Terror, however, loaded the bases with one out in the ninth but was unable to push the tying run across.
The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of second keyed by a Brennan Cuddahy two-run home run before the Green Terror plated three runs in each the second and third innings for a 6-4 lead.
An error opened the door for three runs to score on just one hit in the second inning. On the third inning it was a bases-loaded throwing error that accounted for the three runs.
Fitchburg put up single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game before two runs in the home sixth put McDaniel back in front. A Downes RBI single with two outs was the big hit for McDaniel.
Downes added three hits and two RBIs for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action against Fredonia on Monday. Game time is 9:45 a.m.
