Red Devils rally from eight-point halftime deficit to down McDaniel, 54-50

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Matt Dolan finished with a double-double, recording 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Dickinson to a 54-50 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Wednesday.

Nine of Dolan's team-high point total came after halftime, helping the Red Devils (3-3, 2-0 CC) rally from a 32-24 deficit to open up a lead as large as nine en route to the four point win.

Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) was the only player to reach double figures for the Green Terror (2-4, 0-2 CC) with 12 points.

Dickinson burst out of the second-half gate when Brian Gerney bookended four baskets in the first 2:33 of the period to even the game and force a McDaniel timeout.

Chris Heine capped an 11-0 stretch with a 3-pointer and a Dolan three-point play extended the run to 14-1 over the first 4:08 of the stanza.

Nearly four minutes later, a Tucker Landry layup on the break capped a 22-5 explosion that gave the visitors a 46-37 lead with 12:05 to play.

A Kevin Henry (Frederick, Md./Bullis) jumper with 6:55 showing drew the hosts within 52-48 but McDaniel did not convert another field goal the rest of the way.

Dolan extended the lead back to six with 4:48 showing and Henry canned a pair a free throws with 3:55 on the clock for the final scoring of the contest.

A Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) 3-pointer at the 16:31 mark capped a 9-2 Green Terror stretch to open the game.

McDaniel maintained a 13-6 advantage three minutes later before the Red Devils reeled off eight straight points to take a 14-13 edge.

Trailing 22-20, Evan Pupelis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) nailed a pair of free throws with 4:59 on the clock to tie the game and spark a 12-2 run to the break.

Douglas Jakiela added 10 points for Dickinson while Gerney added six assists to his four points.

The Green Terror returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
