Brooks records three wins, two records

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore won six of the 11 events to help secure a 119-86 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming opener on Saturday.

Bradley Brooks (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) led the Green Terror (0-2, 0-1 CC) with three individual wins that included a pair of program records. Brooks shattered the 1,000 free record by 33.47 seconds, touching in a time of 9:37.34 for a new Swarthmore pool record. He also went out in a time of 4:45.01 to split a new program-best mark in the 500 free.

Brooks also touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.71, ranking sixth on the program's all-time list. He finished the 500 free in a time of 4:47.24 to win by 19 seconds.

Daniel Duncan led the Garnet (1-0, 1-0 CC) with three wins, including as part of both relays. Duncan also took the 200 free in a time of 1:46.78.

Roger Chin, Stan Le and Charlie Hopper – Duncan's teammates on the 200 medley relay – recorded the other three individual wins. Chin took the 100 backstroke (56.53) while Le won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.73) and Hepper was first in the 100 butterfly (56.35).

In addition to Brooks' three wins, Bryan Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) won twice. He was first in the 50 (21.60) and 100 (48.02) freestyle events.

Nuckles also anchored the 200 medley relay, joining Stevie Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Jono Leafblad (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Twp.) and Jesse Mills (Catonsville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) to finish second with a time of 1:44.05.

Patrick Rogers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) was second in the 200 (1:50.32) and 500 (5:06.24) free events.

Hoyt added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.26 and third-place showing in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.34.

Mills and Leafblad went 2-3 in the 100 butterfly with times of 56.67 and 58.60, respectively.

The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Meet time is 7 p.m.
