KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel exploded for 13 runs in the second game to earn a split at the Sunkissed Classic in softball action on Sunday.
The Green Terror (2-6) dropped a 4-3 decision to Kean before toppling SUNY Plattsburgh 13-4 in five innings.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led McDaniel with three hits in game two, including a towering home run in the fourth inning.
Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) led off the top of the first inning with her first of three walks.
Hishon followed with a single up the middle before a fielder's choice put runners at the corners with one out.
Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) and Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) drew back-to-back walks to force in Hishon with the game's first run.
A Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) walk plated Tori Wilkins (Lutz, Fla./Land O'Lakes) for a 2-0 lead.
A pair of walk, Taylor Smith single and a throwing error tied the game in the bottom of the first.
The Green Terror broke out for six runs in the second. Wilkins had the big blow with a two-run double through the left side before Lewis added a double to the gap.
Scardina led off the third with a walk and stole second before a Hishon single and Wilkins double made it a 9-2 game.
Lewis walked to lead off the fourth before a Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) roped a two-out double to the gap, scoring Lewis.
Scardina added another walk and stolen base before scoring on Hishon's first home run of the season.
A Shannon Myles two-run single in the bottom of the fifth set the final margin.
Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) went the distance in the circle with two strikeouts.
In the opener, Jackie Riley led off the second with a double before a sacrifice moved her to third. A popup behind the circle made it a 1-0 game before a two-out walk and Olivia Zengel single up the middle stretched the lead to 3-0.
Lewis drew a two-out walk in the fourth before Wilkins followed with a seeing-eye single through the left side. Wagner followed with a home run to right field to tie the game.
Camryn Schaeffer dropped a one-out single into left field in the seventh. A sacrifice and Julie Raba single up the middle scored the winning run.
The Green Terror returns to action against NYU and Arcadia on Monday. The first game begins at 1:30 p.m.
