Green Terror 11 of final 15 points for 17th straight, 59-54 win at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River) made it back-to-back 20-point outings with a 22-point outburst in McDaniel's 59-54 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory at Haverford on Monday.

Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added 13 points, including recording a steal and pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds, for the Green Terror (17-4, 15-2 CC), who secured a first-round bye in the upcoming CC tournament.

Nina Voith led the Fords (5-14, 3-12 CC) with 15 points while Calla Miller and Dominique Meeks chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Trailing 49-48, Moreland hit a layup with 4:49 to play that gave McDaniel a one-point advantage.

A single Voith free throw on the other end evened the game before Fischer canned a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 4:01 to play to give the Green Terror the lead for good.

Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) added a layup with 2:53 on the clock to stretch the lead to three before Meeks responded with a layup of her own.

Neither team scored again until Fischer stole the ball in the backcourt in the final 30 seconds and was fouled.

The freshman sank both free throws with 22.1 seconds on the clock before a missed 3-pointer at the other end and Moreland rebound and two free throws with 6.6 seconds showing set the final margin.

After Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and Dominique Meeks exchanged baskets in the first 1:41, Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River) drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key at the 17:51 mark to ignite a 12-2 run that included nine straight points to take a 14-4 lead with 13:02 showing.

Four straight Haverford points closed the deficit to six with 11:33 on the clock.

A Calla Miller basket-and-foul drew the hosts within 16-11 at the 9:17 mark but McDaniel reeled off five straight to re-establish a double-digit advantage.

The Green Terror maintained a lead between six and 10 points the remainder of the half.

An 11-2 burst to open the second half gave the Fords their first lead of the game. Miller capped the stretch with a 3-pointer at the 14:38 mark to give the hosts a 37-33 lead.

A Moreland jumper and three-point play from Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) once again gave McDaniel a one-point advantage 54 seconds later.

Four straight points from Meredith Schoyer gave Haverford a 41-38 lead and forced a Green Terror timeout with 12:16 on the clock.

Over the next nearly eight minutes, the teams exchanged the lead five times with two ties before McDaniel's late burst sealed the team's 17th consecutive victory.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
