WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel College has announced that it will name the court in the Gill Center in honor of longtime women's basketball coach Becky Martin '80.
Green Terror women's basketball alumnae and friends of the program, including the Hornberger Family of Westminster, Md., have established The Rebecca L. Martin Court Endowed Fund. The Fund provides for the naming of the court used by the men's and women's basketball teams, volleyball team and wrestling team, as well as supports the annual maintenance of the hardwood floor.
A formal ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication will take place at halftime of the women's basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Green Terror women's and men's basketball team hosts Dickinson in a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. McDaniel's annual women's basketball alumnae game also takes place at 10:30 a.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
Martin, who was a multisport star at Westminster High School and a student-athlete at McDaniel (formerly Western Maryland) College, took over the reins of the women's basketball program in 1981, just a year after graduating from the college, and has been a staple on the Green Terror sideline for 37 seasons. With a 554-369 record, she is the winningest coach in CC history. Martin announced that she would take an indefinite medical leave prior to the 2018-19 season.
