Brownawell tallies four goals, two assists

WESTMINSTER, Md. – St. Mary's (Md.) put together a 7-1 run in the second half to secure a 19-11 win over McDaniel in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldfields) led the Green Terror (1-1) with four goals and two assists while Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) added a hat trick.

Caitlin Katchmar led the Seahawks (2-0) with four goals and two assists. Ali Collie added four goals of her own and chipped in one assist.

Jodi Credit and Megan Cannon staked St. Mary's to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 3:27 before Brownawell finished a solo run to cut the deficit in half with 25:53 to play in the opening half.

Back-to-back Collie tallies and Katchmar's first marker stretched the lead to 5-1 before 10 minutes had elapsed.

Mary Kate Clothier (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross Academy) sparked a 3-0 run with a free-position goal at the 19:05 mark.

Brownawell found a cutting Annemarie Duerr (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Farrell finished a solo run from the top to cut the deficit to one with 14:20 showing.

The teams traded markers with Duerr finding Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) to make it a 9-8 game with 26:18 remaining in the second half.

A Katchmar-to-Lacey Brown connection and six straight goals from the eight-meter arc over the next nearly nine minutes made it a 15-9 game before Collie scored from the field with 12:20 to play for a 16-9 lead.

Tori Arcilesi (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) finished a short pass from Brownawell before Katchmar and Brownawell traded their fourth markers of the day to make it a 17-11 game with 5:18 remaining.

St. Mary's finished with a 35-25 advantage in shots while McDaniel had an 18-14 edge in draw controls. Farrell corralled eight draw controls and two caused turnovers to go with her three goals while Geiger had seven draws.

The Green Terror returns to action at Goucher on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
