WESTMINSTER, Md. - Haverford scored nine straight goals in the first half as part of a 20-11 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday.
Olivia Geiger (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) led the Green Terror (4-4, 0-1 CC) with four goals and an assist.
Rina Rosnow paced the Fords (5-1, 1-0 CC) with four goals and an assist of her own.
Trailing 2-0 after goals from Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) and Emily Brownawell (Sparks, Md./Oldsfield) in the game's first 1:32, Olivia DiRienz converted a free-position goal for the first of her four markers with 25:32 to play in the opening half.
Rosnow and DiRienz each found the back of the net to make it a 3-2 game with 22:47 on the clock.
The Fords reeled off another six in a row to open up a 9-2 lead with 14:21 remaining.
Free-position goals from Quattrone and Abby Blankenship (Urbana, Va./Christchurch) 14 seconds part closed the deficit to 9-4 with 13:19 showing before Rosnow started another three-goal flurry by Haverford in a 53-second span.
After the teams traded goals, Two goals from Rosnow in the final 2:24 of the first half made it a 16-6 game at the break.
Molly Lausten and Kate Sollee stretched the lead to 18-6 midway through the second half.
Two Geiger tallies and Brownawell's third goal closed the deficit to 18-9 with 8:28 to play.
The teams traded goals over the final stretch, including Brownawell just beating the final horn to set the final margin.
Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) won eight draw controls while Olivia Maenner (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) led the defense with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Brownawell matched Geiger with four goals.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
