WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will travel to Baltimore, Md., in search of its first Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer championship this weekend.
The third-seeded Green Terror (10-4-1, 6-3-1 CC) faces second-seeded Swarthmore (13-2-2, 7-1-2 CC) in Saturday's second semifinal at 3:30 p.m., or 60 minutes following the conclusion of the day's first semifinal.
That semifinal pits top-seeded Johns Hopkins (16-1, 10-0 CC) against the winner of the first-round game between fourth-seeded Dickinson (10-3-4, 5-2-3) and fifth-seeded Haverford (8-5-3, 5-3-2 CC). That game begins at 1 p.m.
The semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship game, which will begin at 1 p.m.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Nov. 10. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. It is the fifth tournament appearance for McDaniel. The Green Terror is also in search of its fourth straight NCAA tournament bid.
In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and Garnet, Swarthmore prevailed 3-0 at Swarthmore on Sept. 22.
Freshman Hannah Schepers (Port Deposit, Md./St. Mark's) leads the team and conference with 12 goals. She is third in the conference with 24 points. Sophomore Maddie Schwartz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) has added eight goals and three assists for 19 points. Senior Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) has four goals and four assists for 12 points. Senior Alyssa Johnston (West River, Md./Southern) has a team-high five assists.
Freshman Katherine Carstensen (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) has a 1.02 goals-against average and .796 save percentage. She is 7-2-1 in 10 starts in goal.
