KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Alyssa Johnston (West River, Md./Southern), a senior on the McDaniel women's soccer team, has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III Scholar All-Region team, announced on Monday.
Johnston was a Scholar All-South first-team selection. It was the first time she received the honor.
Johnston, a defender, entered the season with a 3.53 grade-point average in kinesiology and chemistry. She makes her first appearance on the all-region team after garnering first-team All-Centennial Conference (CC) honors. Starting 13 of 20 games, she was a key part of a defense that posted a 1.18 goals-against average on the year. She also led the team with six assists and contributed a pair of goals for 10 points.
To be named to the Scholar Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 throughout her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team and be nominated by an institution that is a current United Soccer Coaches College Services member.
The Green Terror concluded the season with a record of 14-5-1 (6-3-1 CC) and advanced to the CC semifinals and won the ECAC Division III women's soccer tournament.
